Staying Safe on the Tour
Watch the world, not just the screen
This app guides you with audio and a map, but it cannot see what is around you. Stop walking when you look at your phone. Stay on sidewalks and paths, watch for uneven pavement and curbs, and cross streets only at crossings while obeying all signals and traffic.
If you are driving
Driving mode is built so a driver never has to touch the phone for narration. Even so, do not handle the phone while the vehicle is moving. Set your route and start the audio while safely parked, or let a passenger manage the phone. Obey all traffic laws, speed limits, and parking and stopping rules, and pull over safely before adjusting anything. Laws, signs, and even which side of the road you drive on vary by country, so always follow the local rules where you are.
Keep your ears open
Keep the volume low enough to hear traffic, sirens, and people nearby. We recommend a single earbud or your phone speaker so you stay aware of your surroundings, especially near roads and intersections.
Respect property and the people who live here
Stops sit along public ways. Please honor private property, posted hours, and closures. Do not trespass or enter restricted areas, and be respectful of residents, businesses, cemeteries, and places of worship. Any decision to enter private property is yours alone.
Know your limits
Tours involve walking and time outdoors. Dress for the weather, stay hydrated, take breaks, and know your own limits. If you have a medical condition, talk with your doctor before taking part. Adults are responsible for supervising children at all times and keeping the group together and away from traffic.
Your phone and your signal
The tour needs battery, a data connection, and location services. Start with a charged phone. Stop locations and your position on the map are approximate and depend on your device and satellite signal, and they can be off, especially near tall buildings. Do not rely on the app for precise positioning. If you are travelling abroad, check that your mobile data or a local SIM will work before you set out.
